O.J. 12% Premium Strong Beer is a bottom-fermented beer with high alcohol content. Pouring the beer results in a vivid, mostly transparent orange-golden liquid settling in the glass. Rather large pearls find their way to the head, which is beautifully dense, but fades away rather quickly. A slow rise of finer pearls continues. In the nose you’re greeted with a bittersweet sensation. There’s cereal, and a touch of raw cocoa, all aromas brightly boasting their way up. More cereal and a hoppy undertone reveal themselves while nosing in between sipping. The first taste of O.J. 12% Strong Beer is like being greeted very amicably, it’s loud and a bit allover, yet warm and aromatic. There’s a floral sweetness to it, it reminds me of oatmeal and honey, rich and with a very creamy texture. In the back, some lemon brilliance finds a very welcome way to the palate. It’s a beer that knows where its strengths lay and wants to highlight them with each sip. It’s multidimensional, yet requires some time. The finish is medium long with a great citrusy bitterness – think lemon rinds and grapefruit, cutting through some of the more sweet tones that remain on the palate. Somewhere lingering in the back, is that all familiar cereal with which it all started. O.J. 12% is a hug from a friend you haven’t seen in a while, someone that wants to tell you all their stories at once. Someone you need to take your time with. Sit back, relax and sip it slow enough. It will reveal its full potential over time.
